Microsoft China Leaks Windows 9 Logo by Accident
Speculations have started to emerge since last month that Microsoft Corp is set to host a press event on September 30. According to some sources, the giant technology firm plans to set a preview of its latest Windows version, with the code name ‘Threshold.’ Redmond is slated to release it in the first half of next year.
The buzz about ‘Threshold’ started in December, when the company made the revelation that it is developing a new operating system (OS). Back then, it said that it is adopting a ‘One Windows’ strategy, which has since been a source of excitement for many Windows aficionados.

For those who can’t wait, a major piece of the puzzle was given away by Microsoft China. While Redmond is not expected to disclose further details about its new OS until later this month, its Chinese division seems to have somehow spoiled the surprise through leaking, by accident, the logo of Windows 9.
Microsoft China has posted an image of the new Windows 9 logo on its Weibo account. The post on the Chinese social network came with a note stating that the next-generation OS is finally ‘coming soon.’ The same post even asked readers if they think the popular ‘Start menu,’ which was omitted from Windows 8, would finally make a comeback.
To the surprise of many, that post was immediately removed, suggesting that it must have been done by accident. However, several Weibo users have already saved and published the screenshot of the Windows 9 logo. As of press time, Redmond remains mum about this.
What to expect
So what can we expect from Windows 9 or ‘Threshold’? According to reports, which have started to circulate in the past several weeks, the new OS would have an option to operate the old Start menu, which could still be found on the lower left corner of the screen. Windows 8 was heavily criticized when it excluded that traditional feature, prompting Microsoft to release an 8.1 version with it.
Windows 9 is also expected to enable ‘Metro’ apps to operate in ‘floating windows’ within the desktop. Several other reported new features of Windows 9 include the Cortana integration and a virtual desktop functionality.
